J Mill pic 1Hi J Mill how are you? First of all could you tell us where you're from and what was it like growing up there?

I'm from the United States.  Frederick, Maryland.  It was kool, its grown so much since I been there.  I grew up in a middle class family.  We had our problems....it was actually a transition from lower class to middle class then back between lower and middle class...if that's a classification.  But pretty much like anywhere else.

So, how and why did you decide to make music your career?

I just got tired of sitting and waiting for labels to come to me so I took my career into my own hands and started making moves.  Its been a great response thus far.

Lets talk about your book "The Official How to Rap Manual" Tell us about the book and how you came up with the idea?

The idea for the book was in the making for a long time.  I started it in middle school.  I just compiled all the methods, tips, tricks, techniques that I learned along the way and turned it into a book.  When I started rapping it wasn't a source I could go to and get help.  So found and created avenues for me and anyone in my position to have one.

What has the response been like?

Its been bananas, I get calls and emails and myspace messages everyday.  I put my personal contact info on almost everything I touch so I got people hitting me for the music and for the book.  It's a good look right now.

Do you have a website people can check out the book?

Yea I created a website strictly for the book.  wwwHow2rap.com  Its free to join.

You've got your own label called "Streetz Certified Records" where you do everything independently from taking the photo for the cover to promoting the music yourself tell us more.

Yea.  I'm a one man label basically.  I have to hit radio, studio, book shows, keep up with online activities etc.  all the time.  It's a lot of work.  But I love it and you learn so much that way.  It started out just wanting to be heard.  Then you just want to sell one album.  Then comes more and more...lol  Its addictive when its good.  But then you have bad days too so you have to take the good and the bad.  Cuz something might go wrong and then you feeling like damn this s@!t isn't what I expected.  Some people give up way to early.  At the first sign of adversity, but I've learned usually with something bad comes something good right around the corner....but you'll never see it if you quit to soon.

As an artist what have you put out on there so far?  j mill cover

I've recently released my first EP called Certified Hustle The EP Starring J-Mill.

Tell us about the Certified Hustle E.P?

I'm very pleased.  Its been getting a great response.  One of those songs were actually picked to be on Rockstar Games Inc's new instalment of the video game Midnight Club Los Angeles.

How is it doing out there?

Wonderful. I get calls consistently from people feeling the album.

Who provides the production?

I have various producers with beats on there.  Shots out to MAZ and Scope & Beam.

Where can people go and purchase the E.P?

They can get it on Itunes, Rhapsody, Emusic, Amazon, How2rap.com, J-Mill.com and other online locations.

Do you have any other artists signed to Streetz Certified Records?

No I'm the only artist on the label right now.

J mill pic 2So you've released a book, have your own label and you're also a recording artist what else do you have up your sleeve?
